Mr Morgan's deportation was blocked after BA passengers mutinied against staff (Image: West Midlands Police)
BA passengers who blocked the deportation of a gangster have been blasted as “ill-informed do-gooders” by the home secretary.
It has been revealed that the man whose transportation to Jamaica was stopped by a last-minute mutiny on the plane was previously jailed following a violent shootout on a street in Birmingham.
The flight to Kingston on November 10 was prevented after passengers realised a man on board was being deported, just as the aircraft was heading towards the runway.
Passengers raised their concerns with the cabin crew, until eventually they forced the plane to return to the terminal at Gatwic by refusing to take their seats. The man was led off, and has since been identified by the Daily Mail as Lawrence Morgan.

James Cleverly told the outlet: “The vast majority of the British people think convicted, violent thugs should be deported.
“My mission is to keep the British people safe. We must be able to remove offenders from our country without interference from misguided and ill-informed do-gooders.”
Mr Morgan had previously been sentenced to five years in prison in 2021 for possessing a firearm following a gunfight - during which he saw his friend "executed" on a city street.
Passengers protested the “injustice” of his removal, despite reportedly not knowing the reason for it.

Mr Morgan, 27, originally arrived in the UK as a child in th early 2000s, the Daily Mail claimed, before receiving a European Economic Area (EEA) permit as the dependent of an EU national in 2009.
He was jailed in 2016 for five years and eight months after police stopped him outside a Birmingham bookmakers, finding cocaine, heroin and a loaded handgun in his bag.
When he was out on licence in August 2020, he and his friend Naasir Francis, 22, were confronted by rival gang members on a street in the Lozells area of the city.
Birmingham Live reports that the pair initially fled the scene, but Mr Morgan later returned on a bike and opened fire, before riding away.

Mr Francis tried to hide in a Lexus, however, 17-year-old Teeko Le shot and killed him at close range as Darnell Donovan-Harris, 22, held the car door open.
At Birmingham Crown Court, Le was convicted of murder and attempted murder, while Donovan-Harris was found guilty of manslaughter.
Mr Morgan was cleared of murder, attempted murder and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life. However, he had already admitted possessing a firearm, and was sentenced based on aggravating factors.
Last year, the Home Office told Morgan, who they classified as a “very high harm” foreign offender, that he was to be deported. This was challenged by his lawyers, who argued his life could be in danger from Jamaican criminal gangs in prison.

He was taken to a detention centre and is believed to still be in the UK.
