The Duke of Cambridge took part in a rare Q & A with young patients on the hospital's radio station. When asked about his favourite Christmas song, the Prince said he liked Mariah Carey's 'All I want for Christmas is You', but his favourite is 'Feliz Navidad' by Puerto Rican singer-songwriter Jose Feliciano.

He said: "I could say Mariah Carey... as well, it's a good one, and obviously there are many others but I think I'll probably go for Feliz Navidad - it's a bit more jolly."

The 39-year-old royal also revealed that his favourite Christmas film is Elf, starring Will Ferrell.

He said: "It's very funny and I keep watching it every Christmas, it still makes me laugh."

Speaking to patients at the hospital, of which he has been president since 2007, the Prince opened up about "enjoying a new version of Christmas since having Children".

He said: “When I see my children meet up with my cousins’ children, they will have a wonderful time playing together.

“It’s very special. So I look forward to that a lot.

“And obviously Christmas is a new dynamic once you have children – suddenly it’s a whole different ball game of noise and excitement.

"So now I’m enjoying a new version of Christmas in my life.”

Speaking about his own Christmas traditions, Prince William said he liked playing board games, like Monopoly and Risk, with his children and enjoyed ice-skating but looked like a "deer on ice".

He added: "Food is quite important to me at Christmas.

"I do tend to eat a lot at Christmas.

"There's always a tiny little bit of space left in my stomach somewhere for a bit more turkey or sausage or, you know, a bit of wine."

Asked if he likes Brussels sprouts, William said he "loved" the vegetables with his turkey, roast potatoes and sausages.

Answering a question from one young patient, who wanted to know what the future king would do if he were in charge of Christmas for a day, the Prince said he would "bring everyone together to have a big party".

He added: "There would definitely be no COVID and there certainly wouldn't be any cancer in the world."

This comes after the Queen cancelled the Royal Family's traditional pre-Christmas family gathering as a "precautionary" measure amid the rise of Omicron cases in the UK.

The pre-Christmas gathering was scheduled to take place next week at Windsor Castle and would have seen several members of the Royal Family in attendance.

A senior palace source said: "The pre-Christmas family lunch will not be going ahead.

"The decision is a precautionary one as it is felt to put too many people’s Christmas arrangements at risk if it went ahead.

"While there is regret that it is cancelled, there is a belief it is the right thing to do for all concerned."
