400,000 dementia patients in Pakistan

       LAHORE: Punjab observed the World Alzheimer’s Day to increase public awareness about the disease and its consequences.

       Dr Hussain Jafri, secretary-general of Alzheimer’s Pakistan, said currently an estimated 55m people worldwide were living with this neurological condition.

       He said according to estimates, there are over 400,000 people with dementia in Pakistan. Research indicates that people can develop dementia for decades before symptoms become apparent. However, reducing exposure to risk factors, both before and after diagnosis, can delay, slow progression, or even prevent projected dementia cases.

       Dr Jafri said the importance of clear and understandable information and advice, as well as making lifestyle changes accessible and affordable for everyone.
