KOTA TINGGI: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) has detained a Port Klang -registered tanker for anchoring off Johor without a permit.
Johor MMEA director First Admiral Nurul Hizam Zakaria said the vessel was found anchored at 4.1 nautical miles (about 7.59km) north-east of Tanjung Punggai at around 11.25am Thursday (Aug 12).
“The tanker was detained during a routine patrol, where the ship master failed to produce an anchoring permit issued by the Marine Department.
“The ship was detained along with its 11 crewmen, including nine from Indonesia, aged from 20 to 40 years old,” he said.
The case was being investigated under Section 491B(1)(l) of the Merchant Shipping Ordinance 1952 for illegal anchoring.
