JOHOR BARU: Johor police will seek the cooperation of their Singapore counterparts to investigate threats received by MCA national public complaints and service bureau deputy chief Chua Jian Boon.
State police chief Comm Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay (pic) said this was because the phone number and bank account in the case were traced to the republic.
“Many have questioned the police on why it is taking so long to resolve the case but it is not so straightforward. The culprits have an organised and detailed operational method, including using fake vehicle registration numbers, making investigation more complicated.
“The phone and account number involved in the case is from Singapore and we need to get help from the country concerned to investigate further,” he said at the state police headquarters here yesterday.
On Thursday, Chua’s family home in Kulai was splashed with red paint. Scam syndicates are believed to be involved.
A note saying ‘This is just the start’ was left in front of the house.
On Friday, Comm Ayob confirmed a police report on the case was made and said it was being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code for causing damage through acts of mischief.
Police have also set up a taskforce to identify those involved.
On another matter, Comm Ayob said police raided two entertainment outlets that were found operating during Phase Three of the National Recovery Plan here. The raids took place between 11.05pm on Saturday and 12.10am on Sunday around Taman Mount Austin and Taman Cahaya Kota Puteri.
“In the Taman Mount Austin raid, 22 individuals were slapped with a RM5,000 compound each while one man who was managing the establishment was served a RM25,000 compound. This brings the total amount of compounds collected during the raid to RM135,000,” he said.
Comm Ayob said 96 persons were issued compounds at the Taman Cahaya raid. Five were also arrested, including a woman managing the centre, three illegal immigrants and a man wanted for a drug offence.
