KUWAIT CITY, Dec 30: The National Assembly Office on Thursday held a meeting with Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim, Observer MP Osama Al-Shaheen, Chairman of Legal and Legislative Affairs Committee MP Obaid Al-Wasmi, Chairman of Financial and Economic Affairs Committee MP Ahmed Al-Hamad, Chairman of Parliamentary Priorities Committee MP Osama Al-Menawer and Secretary General Adel Al-Lugani. Meanwhile, the Parliamentary Priorities Committee held its first meeting for the current parliamentary round on the same day. Al-Menawer disclosed that MPs Obaid Al-Wasmi, Ahmed Al-Hamad and Abdulazeez Al- Saqaabi attended the meeting.

During the meeting, Al-Menawer was elected chairman of the committee and Al-Saqaabi as rapporteur. Al-Menawer said the committee specified the priorities for the upcoming period as follows:

       ● reply to the Amiri Speech as part of the parliamentary tradition since the issuance of the Constitution,

       ● discussing the agenda of the new government while making clear that such agenda will help the MPs decide the way they will deal with the items therein,

       ● housing

       ● health and education

       ● retirees.

Moreover, MP Marzouq Al- Khalifa has asked Minister of Commerce and Industry Fahd Al-Shuraian if the ministry has formed the Bankruptcy Committee as per Law No. 71/2020. If yes, he wants to know the names, qualifications, experience, salaries and allowances of the members of the committee; as well as the number of meetings held since its formation. He inquired if the committee has assigned the executive board to help in accomplishing its tasks, the recommendations it has presented so far to amend Law No. 71/2020 and its executive decree, if the committee keeps a record of bankruptcy cases under its jurisdiction, if it organized symposiums or discussions on the Bankruptcy Law, and if it has conducted studies or researches on bankruptcy.

Lastly, he demanded for a comprehensive report on the achievements of the committee. MP Abdullah Al-Turaiji asked Minister of Public Works and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Ali Al-Musa who is responsible for the transfer of an agricultural plot from the heirs of the father-in-law of former chairman of Public Institution for Social Security (PIFSS) Fahd Al-Rajaan to a private company. He inquired if the issue was referred to the committee in charge of agricultural plots or not and if all the heirs signed the waiver at the Public Authority for Agricultural Affairs and Fish Resources (PAAAFR). He pointed out such a waiver contradicts the court verdict to freeze the assets of Al- Rajaan and his wife who is one of the heirs. He disclosed the plot measures about 930,000 square meters and the estimated value is KD5 million. By Saeed Mahmoud Saleh Arab Times Staff
