KOTA KINABALU: An unemployed man has been charged at a Labuan Magistrate's Court with the rape of his 15-year-old daughter.
It is learnt the 45-year-old Murut man was slapped with two such charges on Friday (Dec 17).
According to the charge sheet, he allegedly committed the offence at their house in Kg Arang Batu 1, Labuan.
The alleged rapes were said to have begun in April.
No plea was recorded from the accused and Magistrate Kasyufurrahman Abang Ahmad set Feb 14 for next mention.
No bail was offered for the accused.
If convicted, he faces a jail term of between 10 and 30 years, as well as caning.
The complainant's identity is unknown as details of the case are being withheld to protect the victim.
Labuan acting police chief Deputy Supt Mohd Ibrahim Mohd Ghani urged the community to report any criminal incidents including sexual abuse and domestic violence if they suspect anything.
He said such cases have seen a significant increase recently.
