BRITS were seen getting their Christmas drinks in early last night as fears mounted over possible new Covid rules in bars and pubs.

Revellers packed out party spots in Leeds after it emerged ministers were considering 'Plan C' rules.

The potential clamp down would include "table service in pubs" and "vaccine passports in smaller venues", according to the Daily Mail.

And the proposals - which would be a step up from current Plan B measures - could be introduced in the New Year if the Omicron variant turns out to be more dangerous scientists think.

Last night, party-goers made the most of the restriction-free Thursday as festively-clad drinkers queued outside pubs and bars.

Meanwhile, pals could be seen getting into the Christmas spirit as offices up and down the country held their festive get togethers.

They were told earlier this week that Christmas bashes and nativities could go ahead - but attendees should get tested.

Many work dos will have already been scrapped as a precaution, but some bosses will be keen to squeeze their drinks in early to avoid being hit by future restrictions.

Boris Johnson told a gloomy press conference on Wednesday: "We don't want nativity plays to be cancelled. We think that's ok.

"Currently on what we can see, keep going with Christmas parties but obviously everybody should exercise caution.

"Have ventilation, wash your hands and getting a test before you go is the sensible thing to do to give everybody else at the party the confidence that the person you're meeting is not contagious."

The PM also announced Brits would have to work from home and flash vaccine passports to enter major events, sparking fears of future restrictions.

Furious Tory MPs rounded on the "baffling" Plan B rules and predicted he'll face a "record" Commons rebellion on them.

Angry backbenchers described the new restrictions as "ineffective and discriminatory" and even suggested they've been introduced to distract from the row over the No10 Christmas Party.

But last night it emerged ministers are even considering Plan C - a notch up from the latest changes.

       FEARS FOR FREEDOM

Under 'Plan C' punters would have to check in with the NHS Covid app to go to pubs and restaurants.

Face mask-wearing may also extend to all indoor places - including those currently exempt in Plan B, including gyms and pubs.

Brits may also have to show vaccine passports at more venues - which will be a blow to businesses already facing issues under Plan B.

Rules forcing hospitality venues to collect the contact details of all customers are already being considered in the Plan C "package," according to the Daily Mail.

This would help NHS Test and Trace track down those who come into contact with Covid cases as they fight the mutant strain.

One source told the newspaper measures could also include a return to table service in pubs and restaurants.

It comes as Omicron causes a “breakthrough” infections in vaccinated people, data shows, but symptoms are milder.

Although a cold-like illness is better for the infected person, experts say it can make tracking the virus in the population harder.

People may not come forward for a test if they do not show the classic three Covid symptoms listed by the NHS - a cough, fever and loss of smell and/or taste.

It may also see hospitalisation rates sky-rocket as the virus spreads through both the vaccinated and unvaccinated.

However, case rates are still markedly lower among the vaccinated, making it the most efficient way to protect yourself from the virus.
