A GRANDAD has been killed in a hit-and-run smash with an e-bike, cops revealed.

       Bart O’Hare, 86, tragically died in hospital after he was hit with an e-bike while he was walking in Burnley, Lancs.

       The horror unfolded around 4.30pm on Friday March 22 on Accrington Road.

       The grandad was rushed to hospital with serious injuries and remained there fighting for his life.

       However, he has since tragically died.

       An 18-year-old was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of an injury road traffic collision.

       He has since been released on bail while Lancashire Police's probe continues.

       Bart's heartbroken family have now paid tribute to him, hailing him "kind and loveable".

       The loved ones said: “Bart was such a kind and loveable dad, brother and grandad who has been taken away from family and friends in such a tragic manner.

       “As a family we would like to thank all the emergency services involved for all their work.

       “Bart you will be missed by so many, may you now rest in peace.”

       Cops say the e-bike that hit Bart has never been recovered, and asked any witnesses to come forward.

       Sgt. Paul McCurrie, of our Road Policing Unit said: “First and foremost, our thoughts are with Bart’s family at this incredibly sad and distressing time.

       “Bart lost his life as a result of this collision, and we are committed to carrying out an extensive investigation.

       “The sur-ron e-bike didn’t remain at the scene following the incident, and we are yet to recover it.

       "So, we’re particularly interested in hearing from anyone who may have seen a dark-coloured Sur-ron e-bike similar to the one pictured, either being ridden or stored, that matches this description.

       “If you have any information that could assist our investigation, please contact us on 101 quoting log 0952 of March 22 2024, or email our Serious Collision Investigations Unit on SCIU@lancashire.police.uk.”
