TOKYO -- The Tokyo Metropolitan Government has been offering free PCR tests since Dec. 25 for Tokyo residents with no symptoms who are worried about being infected with the coronavirus, at PCR testing sites and drugstores in the capital until the end of January 2022.
According to the metropolitan government, people who live in the capital and have no symptoms such as fever are eligible for the free test. ID is required, but there is no need to provide age and vaccination status.
On Dec. 25, free tests were carried out at 12 sites, and from Dec. 27, a total of about 180 sites and drugstores are scheduled to be ready to conduct about 30,000 tests a day. No appointments are necessary. The results of the tests will be available around the same day or the next day, while the results of antigen tests will be provided after around 10-20 minutes.
The following are the 12 locations that have been accepting free testing since Dec. 25.
Kinoshita Group's coronavirus PCR center's Akihabara branch in Chiyoda Ward, Shimbashi branch in Minato Ward, Hamamatsucho branch in Minato Ward, Shinjuku branch in Shinjuku Ward, Shibuya branch in Shibuya Ward, Ikebukuro East Exit branch in Toshima Ward, Haneda Airport Terminal 1 branch in Ota Ward, Haneda Airport Terminal 2 branch in Ota Ward and Kichijoji branch in the city of Musashino. The other sites are J-VPD Tokyo Laboratory in Shinjuku Ward, MSJ Hachioji PCR testing spot in the city of Hachioji and MSJ Tachikawa PCR testing spot in the city of Tachikawa.
