Perfectly timed to boost economy

PETALING JAYA: Allowing toll-free travel for vehicles coming from Singapore is “perfectly timed” as it will bring in more visitors and boost the local economy, says MCA spokesman Mike Chong Yew Chuan.

Chong described the government’s decision to exempt tolls at the Johor Causeway and the Second Link as “a well thought-out plan and executed at the perfect timing”.

He added this demonstrated the government’s concern for the people for a smooth travel experience.

“When the Malaysia-Singapore land border reopens on April 1 (today), many Malaysians who have been working abroad – and Singaporeans – will surely take advantage of the road charge waiver to come into Malaysia for various reasons,” he said in a statement.

Chong said with the increased traffic volume, commercial activities would increase and this would help to boost the national economy and benefit all Malaysians.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced the toll exemption for all types of vehicles from April 1 to 7, adding the road charge would be waived for Singapore-registered vehicles.
