KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 944 Covid-19 patients have received treatment at the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) field hospital at Hospital Sultanah Aminah in Johor Baru.

       The field hospital which has 80 regular beds and four ICU beds has been in operation for 79 days since June 21.

       Senior Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein said, with the expertise of the ATM medical team, 944 patients had been treated.

       "From the total patients, 877 have recovered and are allowed to go home," he said in a Facebook post on Tuesday (Sept 7).

       Hishammuddin who is Defence Minister added that he was so proud of the dedication shown by the Army, especially the Royal Health Corps, who were always willing to risk their lives in assisting Heath Ministry personnel in combating Covid-19.

       "Cooperation between ATM and the Health Ministry must be strengthened.

       "I have mentioned previously that field hospitals will be increased in states that need it.

       "ATM is only waiting for the Health Ministry's green light to deploy," he said and added that as Covid-19 was the country's enemy, the ATM would combat the virus for the sake of the lives and wellbeing of the rakyat as well as safety of the country.
