Ms Sturgeon predicted Brexit would lead to a huge swing among the Scottish people towards independence from the UK. But according to polls conducted by multiple pollsters, the Scottish people are no more in favour of Scottish independence than they were pre-Brexit.

       Pollster Opinium asked 1,328 Scots how they would vote in an independence referendum between December 15 to 22 – 44 percent said they would vote in favour of Scottish independence, another 44 percent said they would vote to stay in the UK, and 12 percent said they were undecided.

       This poll, however, did not include 16 and 17-year-olds in its participant pool – an age group that is expected to vote in favour of independence.

       In November, after several Tory scandals erupted in Westminster, the polls went in favour of Scottish independence, by just one percentage point, for the first time since the start of September.

       The poll results paint a bleak picture for Ms Sturgeon; The Scottish people aren’t as hungry for independence as the SNP portray.

       Express.co.uk conducted its own poll of 11,429 readers from December 23 to 30, and asked voters whether Ms Sturgeon should cease her demands for an independence referendum.

       A staggering 81 percent of voters said she should give up her demands, whilst 19 percent said she should continue.

       One reader, calling themselves ‘Scottish Taxpayer’, commented: “We have had our referendum and we said NO!

       “The answer is even more NO than before.

       “The only referendum that Scotland needs now, is one on shutting down Holyrood, and saving ourselves over ￡100million per year that this embarrassingly run assembly costs us.”

       Another voter, nicknamed ‘Water Star’, added: “Sturgeon is a tin pot dictator now, god help the Scots if they give her independence.”

       When asked whether Sturgeon will get re-elected if she fails to secure a referendum by the end of 2023, Express.co.uk readers were more divided.

       A majority of 53 percent of voters said she will not get elected, whilst 27 percent said she would, and a further 20 percent were not sure.

       A reader, going by ‘Honest Brit’, said: “Sturgeon and the SNP need to realize that they have not benefitted Scotland in any way.

       “Crime is up, unemployment up, immigration up, drug and alcohol up, education down, she has shown no positive actions for Scotland.

       “Edinburgh the city I was born in and was once beautiful, now looks like a slum. Thanks SNP.”

       Another voter agreed: “If she dropped her obsession, and got on with the "Day Job", she may well get a bit more backing, but after 14 years of SNP rule, Scotland is a basket case.

       “She has only shown they are not up to the job.

       “What the country would be like after 10 years of independence, and run by these clowns, I dread to think.”
