Floods: Number of evacuees in Johor, Pahang, Sabah drops to 459, says Nadma

       KUALA LUMPUR: The flood situation in Johor and Pahang has continued to improve while in Sabah the number of victims remained unchanged, with a total of 459 evacuees on Monday (Jan 15) night compared to 568 victims in the afternoon.

       According to the latest report from the National Disaster Control Centre, National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma), there are 274 victims from 83 families at four temporary relief centres (PPS) in Sabah, 103 victims from 34 families at one PPS in Pahang and 82 victims from 22 families at four PPS in Johor.

       In Sabah, the number of victims is unchanged from this afternoon, with 161 people at one PPS in Sandakan and 113 victims at three PPS in Beluran district while in Pahang, the number dropped to 103 people at one PPS in Rompin.

       The declining trend was also recorded in Johor, with 63 evacuees at two PPS in Segamat, 15 victims at one PPS in Batu Pahat and four people at one PPS in Kota Tinggi district.

       In the case of fire victims, the number of evacuees in Sarawak remains at 38 people from 12 families, housed at one PPS in Kuching, while all the evacuees in Sabah have returned home as of 8pm Monday night.

       Meanwhile, observations at the Irrigation and Drainage Department Telemetry Station show that several rivers in Johor, Pahang and Perlis are at danger levels on Monday night.

       The rivers concerned are Sungai Endau in Kluang, Sungai Johor in Kota Tinggi and Sungai Muar in Segamat, all in Johor; Sungai Pahang in Pekan, Bera, Maran and Sungai Rompin, all in Pahang; and Sungai Arau in Perlis.

       Nadma also said 43 roads were closed due to floods, damaged bridges and landslides, including Jalan Durian Mentangau in Dungun, Terengganu; Jalan Kota Tinggi-Kluang in Kota Tinggi, Johor and Kuantan-Segamat Highway (Tun Razak Highway) in Pahang. - Bernama
