KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Perikatan Nasional now has a reconstituted committee in place, seven months after Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor led an exodus out of Bersatu's state chapter.

       Datuk Seri Ronald Kiandee, the Bersatu vice president and state chairman, held a meeting earlier this week with Sabah Perikatan's four component parties to set up the new committee.

       Apart from Bersatu, Sabah Perikatan's members are PAS, Gerakan and Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP).

       The meeting appointed Sabah Bersatu's Kadir Abdullah Damsal as secretary and SAPP's Datuk Shuaib Mutalib as assistant secretary.

       Others on the committee include Sabah PAS' Azman Jupari (treasurer), Gerakan's Ng Kiat Hsiung (information chief) and Bersatu's Mikail Sungiau Abdullah (election director).

       They are expected to follow up by establishing the division-level committees soon.

       Kiandee said the formation of the committee will strengthen Sabah Perikatan as it prepares for the state election, due in 2025.

       Sabah Perikatan won the September 2020 snap state election and forged a coalition with Sabah Barisan Nasional to topple the Parti Warisan-Pakatan Harapan government.

       After the general election last year, Sabah Bersatu saw an exodus led by Hajiji.

       Sabah STAR led by Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan also left Perikatan to align with Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) and the unity government under Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

       However, SAPP and Sabah PAS remained with Perikatan at the national level. SAPP is also a member of GRS.
