Lee Anderson claims Labour would operate a 'Homes for Hamas' refugee scheme (Image: Getty)
Lee Anderson has claimed Labour would consider offering refuge to Hamas militants fleeing war-torn Gaza. The former Conservative MP was responding on social media to Labour MP Sam Tarry's call for a family visa scheme to bring Palestinian refugees to safety in the UK via a safe and legal route.
Mr Anderson, who is now a Reform UK MP, wrote on X: "Labour's Plan. How long will it be before they're offering an (sic) 'Homes for Hamas' scheme?"

The Labour Party and Mr Tarry have been approached for comment. Labour recently unveiled its immigration policy, which includes cracking down on people smuggling gangs, helping refugees in their regions and clearing the asylum backlog.
Along with his claim, Mr Anderson shared a tweet by Reform UK leader Richard Tice, who said the UK has enough immigration problems.

Mr Tice asked why other Arab nations refuse to take Gazan refugees, claiming it was because the "vast majority" support Hamas and are "deeply antisemitic".

Reform's leader said the UK has enough immigration problems and that "under no circumstances" should Britain take any Gazan refugees.
The claims come as more than half a million Palestinians were displaced over recent days by escalating Israeli military operations in southern and northern Gaza, according to the United Nations.
Its agency for Palestinian refugees said on Tuesday (May 14) that around 450,000 Palestinians had been driven out of Rafah in Gaza's south over the past week.
Nearly one-third of registered Palestine refugees, more than 1.5 million individuals, live in 58 Palestine refugee camps in Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, the Gaza Strip and West Bank, including East Jerusalem, according to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency.

The rulers of Egypt and Jordan ruled out taking in Palestinian refugees in the wake of Israel's war on Gaza, which was triggered by Hamas militants' deadly attacks in southern Israel on October 7.
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi said the war was not just to fight Hamas but to force civilians out of Gaza, warning that could wreck peace in the region.

Jordan's King Abdullah II said there would be no refugees in his country nor in Egypt. Some analysts aruge that their stance is driven by a concern Israel wants to permanently exclude Palestinians from their land and a fear of Hamas militants getting into their countries.
Mr Tarry, speaking in Parliament on Monday (May 13), said no one should have to pay tens of thousands of pounds to get across the border at Rafah.
The Ilford South MP added the UK should be able to put in place measures so Palestinians can get digital fingerprints and make asylum applications so they can leave Gaza quickly and arrive in the UK as soon as possible.
