Chancellor Rachel Reeves announced the controversial axing of winter fuel allowance payments for 10 million older people last week.
This has caused fury for pensioners who are relying on the payment to keep on top of their energy bills during the colder months.

Instead of a blanket payment, only those who are on pension credit will qualify for the winter fuel payment.

This means 1.5 million state pensioners on means-tested benefits will receive the payment, while around 10 million who received it last year will not qualify.

The Chancellor blamed the decision on an economic "black hole" and said it is part of a package of measures "to fix the foundations of the economy”.
However, the move has been hit with widespread condemnation at a time when the cost of living is biting across the UK.
Jonathan Bean, of Fuel Poverty Action, said: “Making heating even more unaffordable for those trying to survive on basic pensions is a cruel and reckless move that will cause widespread suffering, and increased NHS admissions this winter.
