Two schoolchildren played the lead roles in their nativity play three decades ago, but unbeknown to them, it was written in the stars they would get their own time in the spotlight after the curtain call. Rose Childerhouse told the Sun she had a crush on James Macpherson when starring in the biblical play in school at Sixpenny Handley First School in Salisbury.

       Unfortunately for Ms Childerhouse, he used his role in the play to impress another girl in his class, he told the publication.

       He told the Sun: “I remember the play and I wish I could say it was love at first sight but it wasn’t.

       “I actually fancied another girl who was also taking part.

       “It’s been a bit of a crazy few years, and neither of us thought this would happen.

       “It’s been a dream come true.”

       The pair dated at Westminster University in London before briefly splitting.

       However, 15 years later the two met by chance and have been together ever since.

       Two years after getting engaged, the couple married on Saturday in Farnham, Surrey, not far from their family home.

       Ms Childerhouse told the Sun: “It feels like it has been a long time coming but it was worth the wait.

       “I’m sure I would have been excited to be Mary alongside my schoolgirl crush but I can’t remember.

       “Not in a million years did we think when we were just children that we would be getting married.

       “It was just perfect timing, it couldn’t have been better.

       “It shows how small a world it is."
