PETALING JAYA: Malaysia will look into the possibility of including Doha in Qatar as part of the various Vaccinated Travel Lanes (VTLs) with its regional neighbours, says Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

He said this after receiving a courtesy call from Qatari Ambassador Fahad Mohammed Kafood at his office yesterday.

“Our discussion touched on our countries’ mutual need to re-expand passenger air travel services between Qatar and Malaysia.

“Before this, we had five direct (daily) flights between Malaysia and Qatar. Now it’s only two flights daily from Qatar.

“I assured His Excellency that the Transport Ministry along with the Health and the Foreign Ministries will look into the possibility of including Doha as part of various upcoming VTLs with our neighbours as requested by the Ambassador,” Dr Wee posted on Facebook.

He said he also informed the ambassador that Malaysia would support Qatar’s candidacy for the council of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO).

“In turn, I wish to thank His Excellency for also affirming Qatar’s support of Malaysia on our candidacy for re-election to the IMO council for the 2022-2023 biennium during the 32nd session of the IMO Assembly to be held from Dec 6-15,” Dr Wee said.
