SEREMBAN: The bodies of two Myanmar men, in their 30s, who were feared drowned while swimming at Teluk Kemang Beach, Port Dickson two days ago, were found on Monday (Dec 20) morning.

Negeri Sembilan/Melaka Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency director, Maritime Capt Haris Fadzillah Abdullah said the first body was found by a local fisherman about 0.4 nautical miles southwest of Tanjung Tuan at 8.20am.

"About an hour later, the second body was found not far from the location the first body was recovered. The bodies were then handed over to the police for further action,” he said in a statement here, today.

The victims, who were the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) cardholders and worked in the district, were said to have gone to the beach for a swim before they were reported missing at around 1.30pm.

Haris Fadzillah said the search and rescue operation which was activated on Dec 18 involved almost 50 personnel from various agencies, including the police, Fire and Rescue Department and Malaysian Civil Defence Force.

"The search covered an area of ??more than 20 nautical miles from the coast,” he said.

He also advised the public to avoid beach activities during the monsoon due to the bad weather to prevent untoward incidents. - Bernama
