MAEBASHI -- A 39-year-old unemployed man in east Japan was served a fresh arrest warrant on Jan. 5 for forging a marriage registration form.
Law enforcement agencies including Gunma Prefectural Police's Kiryu Police Station served a fresh arrest warrant against Kazuaki Mogi, who lives in the Gunma Prefecture city of Isesaki and has already been indicted for violating the Residential Basic Book Act and other laws, on suspicion of creating and using a false official document with seals.
Mogi allegedly forged a marriage paper between around Sept. 28 and 30 last year by filling in a form with the name, date of birth and other information of an acquaintance who lives in southeastern Gunma Prefecture and sealing it by using her name. He then apparently filed the paper at the night service counter of a local government in the central south part of the prefecture late at night on Sept. 30. Signatures by third persons were apparently in the witness section of the registration form, so the police station is investigating whether someone else was involved in the crime.
Mogi has reportedly admitted to the allegations and was quoted as saying, "I liked her and wanted to marry her."
He has been indicted for violating the Residential Basic Book Act and other laws, specifically for allegedly obtaining the same woman's residence certificate illicitly.
