KOTA BARU: The investigation into an alleged paedophile is expected to take about a month, says Kelantan police chief Datuk Muhamad Zaki Harun.

He said this was because the investigation on a teacher from a school in Tumpat is still at an early stage and there may be other witnesses.

He said the investigation would also take into account all accusations and examine texts and messages between the teacher and the student concerned to ensure no one is unjustly treated.

"We have summoned four witnesses but their identities cannot be disclosed.

"We urge anyone with information to come forward and we will determine the veracity of the victim's claims," he said at a press conference at the Kelantan police headquarters here on Monday (April 1).

On March 28, a social media user claimed that the teacher was a paedophile and was still teaching at the school.

However, the teacher concerned filed a police report for defamation.

On Sunday (March 31), police said they had called several witnesses, including students and teachers, and had examined the phone contents of the parties involved.

The investigation will be conducted under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 and Section 500 of the Penal Code. – Bernama
