PUTRAJAYA: The Health Ministry has identified 19 new Covid-19 clusters, taking the active number to 1,387.

Of the clusters reported Friday (Sept 17), 11 involved workplaces, six community clusters and two were identified as “high-risk group” clusters.

In its daily Covid-19 updates, the ministry said the highest number of cases involved a workplace at Jalan Simpang Pulai Cameron in the district of Kinta, Perak.

The cluster, which recorded 257 cases out of 355 individuals screened, was discovered following targeted screenings involving workers of a farm.

One community cluster at Kampung Sungai Koi in Jerantut, Pahang now has 10 individuals infected with Covid-19 after the index case - a 27-year-old Malaysian man - was found positive on Sept 8.

The number of clusters, which had emerged since the pandemic broke last year, currently stands at 5,247.

The number of clusters, which have ended to date, is 3,860.

On Friday, the country reported 17,577 new cases, including three imported cases.

The locally transmitted cases involved 17,574 Malaysians while 2,136 were foreign nationals.

Sarawak recorded the most number of cases at 3,480.

The combined total of 3,043 cases in the Klang Valley comprised Selangor (2,646) and Kuala Lumpur (366), while Putrajaya had 31 cases.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the country’s cumulative total of cases now stands at 2,067,327.

“Of the 17,577 cases, 98.6% or 17,333 are mild to asymptomatic infections.

“A further 244 cases or 1.4% are Category Three, Four and Five infections,” said Dr Noor Hisham on Friday.

In the same 24-hour span, 16,939 patients in the country were discharged from treatment.

A total of 1,800,275 people in Malaysia have recovered from Covid-19.
