KOTA KINABALU: A new cluster involving students of a secondary school in the Ranau district has been detected as Sabah's latest Covid-19 figures show 201 new cases today (Jan 18).
State Covic-19 spokesman Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said the index case of the cluster was a 19-year-old student of SMK Ranau who tested positive after she carried out a self-test following symptoms of the virus.
He added that so far, six of her classmates and roomates had tested positive under the cluster dubbed Puri Ranau.
"All the female students were in Categories One and Two only and segregated and given appropriate treatment," he said in a statment.
This is the second education cluster in three days. On Sunday (Jan 16), 34 students at a hostel tested positive for the virus under the Jalan Kepayan Lama cluster.
Masidi said Sabah's Covid-19 daily cases on Tuesday (Jan 18) – 201 – showed an increase of 28 cases from the day before.
There were nine districts recording double-digit cases with Kota Kinabalu (42) and Tuaran (37), surpassing the average 20 daily case level in the past week.
Ten districts recorded single-digit cases and eight districts did not record any new cases, he added.
