KOTA KINABALU: A 34-year-old woman, who was involved in a 15km high-speed car chase with the police recently, has been slapped with four charges at the Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday (Feb 23).
Martini Abdul Ghani, who is unemployed, was brought before Magistrate Lovely Natasha Charles via video conferencing from the central lock-up in Kepayan near here.
She was charged under Section 379A of the Penal Code for vehicle theft, Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for dangerous driving, Section 353 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant from discharging his duties, and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drug Act for drug offences.
No plea was recorded from Martini.
Previously, her case had gone viral in various social media platforms, where she was seen among others crashing through vehicles in a bid to escape from being arrested by the cops.
She was nabbed on Monday (Feb 14), after nearly an hour of intense chase over 15km from the city centre here to the Manggatal suburbs.
Police managed to smash the driver’s side window to overpower and arrest the woman on Jalan Sepanggar.
Police had earlier fired several shots towards the vehicle's tyres in a bid to immobilise it.
Martini was granted a RM2,000 in two sureties for each of her charges. She has yet to pay the bail as she is also under quarantine for being a Covid-19 close contact while held in lockup.
