IPOH: Four dogs have been found poisoned near a row of shop lots in Lahat Mines here.

Gurdip Singh, who regularly feeds the stray animals in the area, said the carcasses were found by his friend on Saturday (June 4) at about 8am.

"I went to the location at 8.30am and found the dead dogs with blood coming out from their mouths and their tongues blackened.

"I am certain that the dogs have been poisoned," he said when contacted.

It was reported earlier this year that eight dogs have been found poisoned in the area while in May last year, 17 strays were found dead in the area.

Ipoh mayor Datuk Rumaizi Baharin had also warned the people not to take matters into their own hands to get rid of stray dogs and to contact the City Council to catch the animals.

Gurdip said he had lodged a police report on the matter.

"I really hope the police and the Veterinary Services Department will take stern actions.

"This is the second incident this year and the third since May last year. It is happening too regularly," he said, adding that the stray dogs were believed to be from the Papan landfill where dogs captured by the city council are dumped.

"The city council should consider fencing up the area where they dump the dogs," he added.

Meanwhile, Paramjit Singh who also feeds the dogs, said the relevant authorities need to take the issue more seriously.

"It is an issue that needs to be resolved.

"The dogs are also living beings that should not be treated like this," he said.

Paramjit added that the local authorities have often encouraged the people, including non-governmental organisations, to cooperate with them and they should be good to their words.

"There are so many good people and NGOs willing to work with the authorities.

"Most of us are using our own money to feed the dogs and neuter them.

"We all want to do something positive to help the strays," he added.

Efforts are being made to get comments from the Perak Veterinary Services Department and the police on the matter.
