Suicides spike in Kuwait raises Human Rights concern

       KUWAIT CITY, June 23: The Complaints and Grievances Committee of the Kuwait Society for Human Rights (KSHR) held its second meeting to discuss the significant increase in the rate of suicide cases during the COVID-19 pandemic, reports Al-Rai daily. In a statement issued on Tuesday after the meeting, Head of the committee Lawyer Ali Al-Baghli said the committee is in the process of reviewing the efforts of the concerned authorities in dealing with these cases, and finding out the reasons behind the recent increase in the number of suicide cases, in order to finish preparing an integrated report with recommendations and solutions to this concerning issue related to behaviors such as violence, bullying and economic problems. He revealed that the committee held a meeting on Tuesday at the headquarters of the society to discuss the causes and solutions for the increase suicide rate.

       The meeting was attended by representatives of the Deanship of the College of Social Sciences, the Office of Social Development, the General Department of Criminal Evidences, the General Department of Criminal Investigation, the Ministry of Health, and the Central Status for Remedying the Status of Illegal Residents.
