KUALA LUMPUR: Lawmakers should speak based on facts and not cast accusations just because they have immunity in the Dewan Rakyat, says Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi on an Opposition MP’s allegations in a speech.

“I agree that one must not be historically illiterate, especially those who make such accusations,” the Deputy Prime Minister said when winding up the Rural and Regional Development Ministry’s reply on Budget 2024.

“I believe even though we have immunity in this Noble House, we need to speak based on facts and not cast allegations on anyone or political parties in this country,” he added.

He said this in response to RSN Rayer(PH-Jelutong), who said he was shocked by Dr Siti Mastura Mohamad’s (PN-Kepala Batas) allegations that DAP leaders had links to communists.

Siti Mastura allegedly made the claims during an election campaign for the Kemaman by-election.

Bukit Bendera MP Syerleena Rashid lodged a report at the Travers police station on Thursday (Nov 9), saying that Siti's actions were malicious with intent to distort facts and create a negative perception of Lim Kit Siang and his family.
