KUALA LUMPUR: Beware of scammers selling Chinese New Year snacks online.

       Kuala Lumpur Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) chief Asst Comm Mohd Mahidisham Ishak said four reports have been lodged on the matter from Jan 9 until Jan 12 involving RM51,400 worth of losses.

       "Victims booked the CNY snacks online and communicated with the seller via WhatsApp.

       "The suspect gave the victims a web link to be used to pay the deposits. The victims registered and filled in their banking details," he said in a statement on Thursday (Jan 13).

       He added that the victims realised they were duped when they discovered several transactions being made from their bank account to the suspect's account, he added.

       "We advise the public to be careful when making purchases online to avoid being victims of such scammers. Never reveal your banking details or your security codes to any third party," he said.
