BUTTERWORTH: Eight people, including four foreign women, were found partying and drinking juices laced with drugs when police raided a makeshift entertainment centre at a condominium here.
Penang Criminal Investigation Department chief Senior Asst Comm Rahimi Ra’ais said the suspects were found taking part in a drug-infused party in the 6pm raid on Tuesday.
The raid, led by Deputy Supt Akmal Yahaya and ASP Mohd Fairuz Mustafa, was carried out by the anti-vice, gambling and secret societies division (D7) unit of the Penang police contingent.
“Based on public tip-off, police raided the condominium unit on the 10th floor and found the suspects, aged between 25 and 40, partying with loud music while drinking juices laced with drugs.
“Police also seized audio systems and disco lights at the condominium unit,” he said in a statement posted on the Penang police Facebook page.
SAC Rahimi said police believed the unit was rented by one of the male suspects about a year ago.
He said during the raid, police found various types of drugs which were believed to have been used by the suspects during the party.
Among the drugs were Erimin 5, ecstasy pills and methamphetamine.
He said seven of the suspects also tested positive for drugs.
“We believe the rented condominium unit was turned into a makeshift entertainment centre during the National Recovery Plan period,” he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 269 of the Penal Code, Section 12(3) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952 and Section 15(1) of the same Act.
SAC Rahimi thanked the public who tipped off the police about the party, and welcomed all help related to criminal activities.
