PETALING JAYA: Bank Simpanan Nasional’s (BSN) debut in the capital markets received an overwhelming response from investors pursuant to its successfully priced RM750mil sukuk wakalah (offering) under its recently established sukuk wakalah programme of up to RM3.5bil in nominal value.

The offering was successfully priced on Oct 7 pursuant to a one-day book-building exercise, receiving robust response from various investors during its book-building exercise, leading to the transaction being upsized to RM750mil from the initial size of RM500mil.

It was oversubscribed by 3.48 times with the final order book registering RM2.61bil total orders from over 30 accounts consisting of fund managers, financial institutions, lifers and government agencies.

Due to a successfully executed book-building strategy and robust demand received during the book-building exercise, the three-year, five-year and seven-year tranches were finally priced at 2.93%, 3.47% and 3.89%, at two to three basis points tighter than the lower end of the initial price guidance.

Jay Khairil, BSN chief executive, said: “The successful launch of this offering marks another important milestone for BSN as this is the bank’s maiden issuance in the capital markets.

“The overwhelming demand we received from the investors is an indication of the confidence the market has in BSN and the sustainability of our business, with a special mandate as the national savings bank and a strategic government vehicle to implement the government’s agenda.”

The sukuk wakalah programme has been assigned a final rating of AAA by RAM Rating Services Bhd.

Proceeds from the issuance shall be utilised for BSN’s syariah-compliant financing activities comprising refinancing existing/future financing, working capital and other corporate purposes.
