The move comes in response to requests from the Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, which expects spectators at the events. The extra services will add one to two hours to the schedule daily. Parts of the Yamanote Line, the Keihin-Tohoku Line and the Negishi Line will also offer services in the 2 a.m. hour.s
Other lines set to run late-night services in the capital region for the games include the Saikyo Line, the Tokaido Line, the Chuo Line rapid service and the local Chuo-Sobu Line, the Keiyo Line and the local Joban Line.
Lines including those with stations nearest to Olympic venues will have services adjusted temporarily to event times both during normal hours and after the normal last trains. The Tohoku Shinkansen bullet train line, too, will run extra services after the usual last train.
JR East has said its train schedule app will be updated to reflect the changes around July 9.
