JOHOR BARU: Mersing Umno Youth chief Azmir Zainal Abidin has died at the Sultan Ismail Hospital here at the age of 40 years after being admitted due to high blood pressure.
Johor Umno Youth chief Mohd Hairi Mad Shah confirmed the matter, saying Azmir had breathed his last at around 4.25pm on Wednesday (Oct 20).
Azmir is the eldest child of former Johor executive councillor and former Endau assemblyman Datuk Zainal Abidin Osman.
He held several positions in various political and non-governmental groups including Johor Umno Youth assistant secretary, Malaysian 4B Youth Movement permanent chairman and Majlis Gabungan Belia Mersing president.
Azmir leaves behind a wife and two young daughters.
In a Facebook post, Hairi described Azmir as someone who was committed in carrying out his responsibilities.
"His struggles can never be denied as when many left us, he continued to be loyal and confident in this party," he added.
Azmir’s reamins are expected to be buried at Bukit Aliff Muslim cemetery near Tampoi here on Thursday (Oct 21) morning.
