ISKANDAR PUTERI: All sporting facilities built for the Malaysia Games (Sukma) will be available for rent, says Johor youth, sports, entrepreneurs development, cooperatives and human resources committee chairman Mohd Hairi Mad Shah.
He added that this would give locals a chance to experience the facilities and to ensure that the venues do not end up being white elephant projects.
"Although the event has been postponed to 2024, we have received enquiries from sports associations keen on renting some of these facilities.
"One of the highest in demand is the Velodrome Johor, which has been opened to the public starting Sunday (March 27).
"We also welcome any sports associations from Singapore or other countries, in line with the international border reopening on April 1," he said after the clocking-in ceremony at the Sekretariat Sukma Johor office in East Ledang here.
He added that some facilities are under the jurisdiction of the Johor Sports Council and local councils.
"I plan to meet with the state housing and local government committee chairman Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor to ensure that the facilities under their care are also open to the public.
