A Just Stop Oil protest turned -violent yesterday as an activist was “punched and kicked” after the group blocked a busy London road and reportedly caused a pregnant driver to crash.

Daniel Knorr, 21, was allegedly attacked after mayhem erupted in South Kensington.

In a shocking video clip, a silver Mercedes is seen pulled halfway across a road having been hit by a van. A woman leaves the car and screams, “Stop now, I’m pregnant”, before a man gets out and confronts the protesters, yelling abuse.

The man then appears to punch one activist in the face before kicking him while he lies on the ground.

A witness said: “The protest was a string of people in orange bibs blocking two lanes of the street and marching slowly. A silver car I think must have been trying to switch lanes and got hit by a van behind them.

“A woman got out of the car and was shouting at the protesters, and then a man got out too and he just rushed over and started attacking the guy who seemed to be leading the Just Stop Oil group.

“He punched him and then kicked him when he was on the ground. It was quite shockingly violent.”

Just Stop Oil said: “Daniel was assaulted while marching and remained non-violent throughout. Disruption is difficult, but it’s necessary.”

Speaking after the incident, Mr Knorr said: “I haven’t said anything to the police and I don’t plan to, but I’m afraid the police might go after this man.

“I feel no ill sentiment or ill will against him. It’s a difficult situation for anyone to be in and it’s bound to create frustration.

“I can tell with the fact that he’d just been in a car accident, he was very stressed.”

The biochemistry -student from Oxford was last seen being carried off the pitch at Lord’s by England cricketer Jonny Bairstow after disrupting the second Ashes Test match last month.

As exclusively revealed by the Daily Express, the eco activists are conducting a co-ordinated six days of action across London.

There were also protests at Parliament Square and Westminster Bridge.
