SAITAMA -- Signs for a local public prosecutors' office and other agencies were found vandalized with red paint in this city north of Tokyo on Jan. 4, sparking a police investigation.
At around 7:15 a.m., an employee of the Saitama District Public Prosecutors Office reported to the Urawa Police Station that signs at the front of the building in the city of Saitama's Urawa Ward had been splashed with paint.

Investigators found red paint covering a sign bearing the names of agencies including the prosecutors' office at the gate of the government building, and a similar sign at the building's entrance. A windowpane near the entrance had also been broken.
Police are investigating the detailed circumstances behind the incident.
