An incensed mother said she is baffled by the uncertainty over whether schools will open as normal in January as she called out Sajid Javid and Nadhim Zahawi for not giving education enough importance. The escalation of the COVID-19 crisis with Omicron taking hold may give the Government food for thought about whether it may be best to shut down schools in January with new restrictions, or even a lockdown, looking like a real possibility. Liz Cole, whose children are left in the dark about whether they will have to resume homeschooling after the turn of the year, said that she cannot bear to live with the thought of not knowing what is next for them.
She insisted that she has no faith in the Education Secretary as she picked up on how deeply invested he is into the vaccine thematics rather than focusing on the job he is tasked with.
Ms Cole, like many other parents across the UK, is dreading the prospect of schools being forced to shut again as it would impact not only her children’s lives but her own as well.
The mother, who cut a frustrated figure as she talked to TalkRADIO’s Richard Tice, blasted the government for not being “responsible” enough and feels that the children’s education plays second fiddle to the booster vaccination programme as she is desperate for schools to remain open.
She said: “Actually, I don’t have much confidence in Nadhim Zahawi.

"He seems to have forgotten that his new brief is education secretary and his main focus continues to be the vaccination programmes.
“So as far I can see the education secretary role is pretty much missing in action.
“Nadhim Zahawi still seems to think that he is in his previous role.
"And what I find quite extraordinary about this is, when asked if schools open in January a responsible government, a responsible leadership should be explicit and very strong in their messaging that come hell or high water they will do everything in their power to open schools.

“And yet neither Nadhim Zahawi nor Sajid Javid would rule out that.”
And she stressed that the government should not be deceived into thinking that children are unaware of their lack of “interest” in their education as it’s clearly dawning on them that politicians prioritise the booster jab rollout.
Ms Cole added: “And what is that telling our children, the children of this country is that it doesn’t matter.
“If we think that children actually don’t listen to this messaging, that’s a huge mistake.

"What they are seeing is this huge investment going against the booster programme and actually no similar efforts, interest or even any discussion of their education.
"It’s quite extraordinary to me that we are in this situation."
A number of schools are already preparing to switch to online learning after Christmas in case new restrictions are coming into force in the UK.
