Ian Blackford has slammed No. 10 for snubbing Scotland’s flagship carbon capture project. The SNP have been “quite furious” about this move, calling the decision “illogical”. The UK now will grant funding for two sites in England and Wales while the Aberdeenshire Acorn project is held in reserve.
He added: “And yet again, our interests have been trampled all over.”
Reporter Rajdeep Sandhu added: “The SNP have also accused the government the UK Government conservatives are playing politics.
“They point out that the areas that were selected just happened to be areas where there are new conservative voters that this government is trying to keep happy and they’re called red wall seats.
“Now that has been pushed back on quite heavily by UK Government sources tonight.
“I don’t think it necessarily comes as a surprise to anyone that when they’ve looked at where their votes lie in the north of England, as opposed to the northeast of Scotland, they’ve decided to back projects in the northeast of England for political reasons.”
He also accused the Minister of politics of selecting a project that will benefit constituencies won by the Tories in the 2019 election.
The Acorn Project, which is to be based in Aberdeenshire, is now likely to come in the second phase of the UK's carbon capture.
