Latest Developments in Financial Literacy Are Focus of Major Conference in Washington, D.C.

       A conference highlighting the latest developments in improving the financial literacy of the American public is being held Nov. 18 and 19 in Washington D.C. by the Financial Literacy Center and the U.S. Social Security Administration.

       Titled “New Insights and Advances in Financial Literacy: Translation, Dissemination, Change,” the conference will feature presentations by leaders in the field of financial literacy, as well as interactive demonstrations of computer game software, survey tools and videos designed to help improve the public's financial knowledge.

       The free event will be held at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Center in Washington D.C. A detailed agenda and registration information is available on the RAND Corporation website at http://www.rand.org/events/2010/11/18/.

       The conference will include presentations by financial literacy leaders such as Annamaria Lusardi, director of the Financial Literacy Center, Olivia S. Mitchell, co-director of the Financial Literacy Center, Peter Tufano of the Harvard Business School, and behavioral economists David Laibson and Brigitte Madrian from Harvard University.

       The conference will feature updates by members of the Financial Literacy Research Consortium, which is made of up of three financial literacy research centers funded by the Social Security Administration.

       The Financial Literacy Center is a joint center of the RAND Corporation, Dartmouth College, and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, with a mission to develop and test innovative programs to improve financial literacy and promote informed financial decision-making.
