KUALA LUMPUR: The electricity supply to nine illegal online gambling premises in Wangsa Maju was cut off following an operation by the police and Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB).

Wangsa Maju OCPD Supt Ashari Abu Samah said the joint operation was conducted at premises in Setapak Jaya, Jalan Tasik Titiwangsa, Jalan Tun Razak, Jalan Ampang Hilir, Jalan Gombak Batu 5 and Setapak.

"Most of the premises were shophouses which were rented by gambling syndicates," he told reporters after an operation in Setapak Jaya on Thursday (March 3).

Supt Ashari said most of the premises have been raided multiple times.

"In the latest case, we detained three individuals including the premises' caretaker in Setapak Jaya on Jan 21. We seized several online gambling equipment and the suspects have already been charged on Jan 26," he said.

Supt Ashari said if the owner of the premises wanted to reconnect their electricity supply, they must obtain permission from the police before TNB reconnects the supply.

"The operation to cut off the electricity supply of premises used by syndicates will be stepped up from time to time. We will take stern action against those who violate the law," he added.
