PETALING JAYA: Pasir Salak MP Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman (pic) has been appointed as Malaysia's ambassador to Indonesia.

       Sources in Wisma Putra confirmed Tajuddin's appointment, which is set to begin officially later in May.

       "Later this month," said the source to The Star in a brief text.

       Tajuddin had earlier confirmed his appointment in a brief text message to Malaysiakini.

       "It's true," said Tajuddin.

       The Star has attempted to contact Tajuddin.

       According to several news reports, Tajuddin will be based in Jakarta upon the appointment.

       Tajuddin will be replacing senior diplomat Zainal Abidin Bakar who had served as the Malaysian ambassador to Indonesia since 2018.

       In November 9 last year, Tajuddin was spotted accompanying Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob in an official trip to Indonesia, fuelling speculation that he would be appointed to the position.

       Tajuddin was terminated as the Prasarana Malaysia Bhd chairman on May 26 last year following an ill-received press conference on the LRT mishap on May 24.
