OSAKA -- A fire that occurred at a logistics company's six-story warehouse in this west Japan city on the morning of Nov. 29 was still burning as of 9 a.m. on Nov. 30, and it is unclear when the blaze will be put under control despite firefighters' efforts.

The blaze broke out at around 8:55 a.m. at Hitachi Transport System West Japan Co. Maishima branch's warehouse in Osaka's Konohana Ward, and has burned some 30,000 square meters of a total floor space of about 56,000 square meters.
According to Tokyo-based parent company Hitachi Transport System Ltd. and the Osaka Municipal Fire Department, medicinal drugs and food products were stored at the warehouse, and it is believed that the fire continues to burn because the blaze spread to those stored goods.

According to Osaka Prefectural Police and other sources, cardboard stored on the first floor was earlier spotted on fire and personnel are investigating the cause of the blaze. The approximately 100 employees who had been working at the warehouse were evacuated safely.
A representative at Hitachi Transport System Ltd. commented: "We're doing everything we can to put the blaze under control. The cause and the damage situation are under investigation."
The site of the fire is on artificial Maishima island in Osaka Bay. Distribution warehouses and sports facilities are concentrated in the area.
