FIREARMS licensing procedures at the police force that returned a gun to spree killer Jake Davison are to be reviewed.

Devon and Cornwall Police took the weapon from the crazed loner and revoked his licence last year following an assault allegation.

But the shotgun and certificate were handed back last month after an anger management course.

Weeks later, he went on a rampage — killing five people including his mum Maxine, 51, and three-year-old Sophie Martyn, before shooting himself.

The latest review — the third investigation into the kill spree of Davison, 22, in Plymouth on August 12 — will be overseen by the National Police Chiefs’ Council.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct is already probing the force’s decision to return Davison’s gun certificate and weapon.

And the deaths of Davison and his victims — also including Stephen Washington, 59, Lee Martyn, 43, and Kate Shepherd, 66 — are the subject of an inquiry by Plymouth’s coroner.
