TOKYO -- The Tokyo Metropolitan Government on Oct. 28 lowered the capital's coronavirus infection status alert level to the lowest on its four-tier system, deeming that infections have been "contained to a certain degree."
It is the first time that the alert level has been brought down to the lowest tier in Japan's capital since the metropolitan government began analyzing the state of infections during its monitoring meetings attended by experts in July 2020. The decision was made while taking into account factors including that infections have continuously declined with the daily average of new cases over the preceding seven days standing at 27.6 as of Oct. 27.
Meanwhile, the alert level for the health care system has been maintained at the second lowest level, which deems that medical services for COVID-19 cases are "able to be balanced with regular health care." The metropolitan government has decided to reduce the frequency of the monitoring meetings from once a week to twice a month for the time being, as infections are subsiding.
