KOTA BARU: Former national basketball player Wee Cheong Phor, who is infirm, had to be carried by firefighters to board an ambulance to the vaccination centre to complete his Covid-19 vaccination.

As soon as he arrived at the Kompleks Balai Islam in Lundang, Wee, 79, who has been struggling with some medical issues in the past six years, received his second vaccination shot from Kota Baru Medical Centre health personnel in the ambulance itself.

“I am not bothered that I needed to use the stretcher to get to the vaccination centre. I did not want to trouble the authorities, including medical personnel, by requiring them to come to my house to vaccinate me, ” he said at his residence in Kampung Cina here yesterday.

“If they came to the house, everyone would be troubled. We need to help the government.”

On June 11, Wee, a former Malaysian Basketball Association committee chairman, had to be carried in a stretcher by firefighters to the same location to receive his first vaccination shot.

Wee also advised the public to register for the vaccination as there was nothing to fear based on his own experience.

“I am thankful to everyone who helped my vaccination process until I completed my second dose today, ” he said. — Bernama
