KUALA LUMPUR: Police here have arrested the motorcyclist suspected of throwing a spanner at a MPV along Jalan Kuching as seen in a video that went viral.
Sentul OCPD Asst Comm Beh Eng Lai said the 38-year-old motorcyclist was arrested at his workplace at Taman Wangsa Melawati at around 3.30pm on Tuesday (Feb 22).
"We will obtain a remand order on the suspect on Wednesday (Feb 23). Initial checks revealed the suspect does not have any prior criminal record," he said when contacted on Tuesday.
It was reported that police were tracing the whereabouts of the motorcyclist who allegedly threw a spanner at the rear windscreen of an MPV along Jalan Kuching, shattering it.
A video of the incident, believed to be dashcam footage from the MPV, was circulated on social media on Monday (Feb 21).
The video shows a motorcyclist showing an obscene gesture at the driver of the MPV after overtaking the vehicle, but subsequent checks on Tuesday show that the video has since been taken down.
The police received a report on the incident at around 4pm on Monday, which occurred when the Toyota MPV sounded its horn at a motorcyclist for changing lanes dangerously.
The motorcyclist showed an obscene gesture to the driver of the MPV and rode off.
The driver of the MPV thought nothing of it and continued driving but moments later, he glanced at his side mirrors and saw the motorcyclist trying to approach the car and fling an object.
The object shattered the rear windscreen of the car and when the driver stopped to check his vehicle, he found a spanner in the car.
