KUALA LUMPUR: Police here have arrested a foreign man for breaking into a restaurant at Kuchai Lama.

       Deputy Brickfields OCPD Supt Basri Sagoni said they received a report from the restaurant owner on Wednesday morning.

       "The 28-year-old man who operates a restaurant at Jalan Kuchai Maju 1, Kuchai Lama was informed by one of his staff that the premises had been broken into at around 8am on that day.

       "Based on information received, we conducted a raid at Jalan 6/116B off Jalan Kuchai Lama at around 3.32pm and arrested a 26-year-old foreign man," he said in a statement on Thursday (Aug 26).

       He said the suspect has been remanded for two weeks to help with further investigations.

       "We also seized cash as well as a set of clothes and tools believed to be used by the suspect.

       "Based on CCTV footage acquired from the scene, a man was seen wearing a white T-shirt and black face mask while prying open the front grille to the restaurant between 4.30am and 5am," he said, adding that the suspect was also captured on CCTV heading to the counter and grabbing the cash box before fleeing.

       He said the case has been classified as breaking-in under Section 457 of the Penal Code.
