JOHOR BARU: A lorry caught fire in front of a shopping mall in Jalan Skudai near here on Friday (March 11) at 12.18pm.
Larkin Fire and Rescue station chief Suhaimi Jamal said 12 firemen from the station were deployed to the scene led by senior officer II Nazaruddin Yusof.
He said one Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) vehicle, an Emergency Medical Response Services (EMRS) vehicle and two units of Rapid Intervention Motorcycles (RIM) were used in the operation.
“The fire damaged about 80% of the lorry and our men used water from the FRT to put out the blaze,’’ Nazaruddin said in a statement.
The operation ended at 12.49pm, and the case is still under investigation to determine the cause of the fire and the losses.
In a separate incident, Nazaruddin said a Proton Wira was damaged in a fire near Taman Merdeka, Jalan Tun Abd Razak near here.
“We received an emergency call at 2.30pm regarding the incident,’’ he said in a statement.
Nazaruddin said 12 firemen were deployed to the scene with one FRT vehicle, an EMRS vehicle and two RIM units from the station.
“About 90% of the car was damaged in the fire,’’ he said, adding that the operations ended at 2.44pm.
The case is still under investigation to determine the cause of the fire and losses.
