KUALA LUMPUR: People needed to be rescued from their submerged vehicles after flash floods hit Jalan Kuchai Lama, here on Monday (March 7).

The Fire and Rescue Department said that 12 cars were submerged with victims requiring rescue, adding however that the situation was under control.

"The flood led to water rising as high as two metres and around 12 cars were stuck with victims resorting to escaping to their car roofs.

All victims affected have been saved and brought to a safe location," the department said in a statement.

Photos and videos of the flooding had spread on social media, with several cars seen submerged along the highway.

Flooding was reported around the city, with Jalan Leboh Ampang, Taman Salak Selatan, Taman U-Thant and Taman Sri Petaling among the areas affected.

In Jalan Air Keroh in Setapak, the department also received reports of flooded houses.

"One truck and eight firefighters were dispatched there and the situation is under control," it said.

In Jalan Cheras Batu 2 1/2, a child care centre was flooded, which required a team of firefighters to be dispatched for rescue work.

"Forty pupils and teachers were evacuated," it said.
