JOHOR BARU: Police here have detained two local men for driving under the influence of alcohol in an operation under Ops Utama.

       Johor Baru South (JBS) OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat said they were apprehended during the operation which started at 11pm on Tuesday (Feb 15) and ended on Wednesday (Feb 16) at 4am.

       He said the operation took place at KM7, Jalan Johor Baru-Ayer Hitam along the Jalan Tun Abdul Razak stretch heading towards Skudai near here.

       “The two suspects are aged between 20 and 31 and were detained under Section 45A (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987," ACP Raub said in a statement Wednesday.

       He said if found guilty, they could face a minimum fine of RM10,000 and not more than RM30,000 and up to two years in jail.

       ACP Raub said during the operation police also issued 50 summonses for 68 traffic-related offences to motorists.

       He said the offences included speeding, not possessing a valid driving licence and modifying the structure of the vehicle or its exhaust.

       ACP Raub said the operation was led by Insp Haikal Kassim from the JBS Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department and assisted by 13 policemen.

       “We will continue our operation to nab traffic offenders and to prevent accidents especially in hotspot locations under our jurisdiction," he added.
